Magellan Corporation donated a table for 10 at the 2017 Bears Care Gala to the USO of Illinois. The USO is a nonprofit charitable organization with a mission to strengthen America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation. The USO gave the donated tickets to Military personnel to attend the Gala at the United Club at Soldier Field. The 22nd annual Gala, named "Brian's Song..So That Others May Live to Sing", is an event that honors the memory of legendary Chicago Bear Brian Piccolo, who battled but succumbed to cancer. In Brian's memory, Bears Care, through the Galas, has raised and invested over $13.5 million in critical research and treatment programs focused on finding a cure for breast and ovarian cancer and improving therapies for those currently battling the disease.
The guests of the Gala enjoyed cocktails, dinner, and dancing among many Chicago Bear's players, coaches, and staff.
The GALA was a blast. My fiancé and I would like to thank you so much for the opportunity. It especially hit home with me, My mother is battling cancer right now. The table was filled with wonderful people and I can’t thank enough for the opportunity to be involved in the event. It was a bit overwhelming at first to be honest. The food, company, band and speakers were a delight. Please tell the donor of the table thank you so much for providing the table. It was an experience I will not forget.
My guest and I are both humbled by the opportunity to be able to sit amongst some of the greatest supporters of cancer research. As oncology nurses, we both have borne witness to the journey that our patients and their loved ones undertake, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Some of our patients go on to become survivors and some of them transition to palliative/hospice care; the difference lies in the amount of research invested in the type of cancer. To be able to participate in this fundraising effort hosted by the Chicago Bears has been especially meaningful to the both of us on a personal level. Thank you so much for donating the table to the USO and allowing service members to be able to contribute to the efforts as well. Your generosity will not be forgotten.
